Saarlandisches Staatstheater is one of Saarbrücken’s most important performing arts venues, distinguished by its monumental Neoclassical architecture. Its main auditorium, known as the Großes Haus, accommodates around 875 guests and hosts opera, operetta, musicals, drama, ballet and special concerts. The theatre opened in 1938, while the auditorium underwent a major renovation and expansion in the late 1980s.
