Palau de la Música Catalana is one of Barcelona's most distinctive concert venues and a masterpiece of Catalan Modernism. Designed by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the building combines brickwork, ceramics, sculpture, mosaics and stained glass in an interior and exterior that are as memorable as the performances themselves. The main Concert Hall accommodates just over 2,000 visitors, while the complex forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The interior of the main auditorium is especially striking, with abundant natural light, a large central stained-glass skylight and an elaborately decorated stage. Created specifically for musical performance, the hall is valued for acoustics suited to orchestral concerts, recitals, choral music and a wide range of other live events. The venue also includes smaller performance spaces, a foyer, café and additional visitor facilities.
