Gatineau, located in Quebec on the north shore of the Ottawa River opposite Canada’s capital, is an important destination for sporting events, concerts and cultural events within the wider National Capital Region. The city combines its own scene of arenas, sports facilities and cultural spaces with the immediate proximity of Ottawa, allowing visitors to choose from a variety of programs on both sides of the river. A diverse selection of restaurants, hotels and evening entertainment is particularly concentrated in the Hull and Gatineau sectors, making it easier to organize a stay around a game, concert or other event.

Public transportation is operated by the Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO), while the backbone of rapid bus transportation is the Rapibus, a bus-only corridor connecting parts of Gatineau with downtown Hull and downtown Ottawa. Transfers to the OC Transpo network are available at several points, making it easier to reach arenas, stadiums and concert venues on both sides of the river. For intercity rail travel, the VIA Rail Ottawa Station on Tremblay Road is a practical option, while the main gateway for scheduled passenger air travel is Ottawa International Airport (YOW); Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport is located within Gatineau itself and provides an additional local airport.

Before or after an event, it is worth visiting the Canadian Museum of History, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks on the banks of the Ottawa River, and walking through nearby Jacques-Cartier Park, which offers views toward downtown Ottawa and Parliament Hill. Downtown Hull provides city streets, restaurants and cultural attractions within a compact area, while riverside pathways offer a pleasant break from programs in arenas and event venues. For a longer stay, Gatineau Park provides a natural contrast to the urban part of the city, making it easy to combine a sporting event or concert with cultural sightseeing, a walk along the river and time in nature.
